About The Artwork

This piece was inspired by the Kumbh Mela (the festival of the sacred Pitcher). Kumbh Mela is the largest peaceful congregation of pilgrims on earth, during which participants bathe or take a dip in a sacred river. Devotees believe that by bathing in the Ganges one is freed from sins liberating her/him from the cycle of birth and death. Millions of people reach the place without any invitation. The congregation includes ascetics, saints, sadhus, aspirants-kalpavasis and visitors. I feel a layman who goes there and see the faces of the ascetics and sadhus who congregate there, see a reflection of themselves in them. The possibility of a life shorn of the material and the physical. It is a feeling i have felt. And a feeling i think resonates with a growing number of us with the current way the world is going.
