About The Artwork

The painting of traditional ship kurenas. A traditional wooden type of flat bottom fishermen boat – kurenas was used in Vistula lagoon and Curonian Lagoon, East Prussia until 20th century. The name comes from the Curonian people (kursiai). The ships were mostly used for transportation purposes also to catch fish by dragging a large net in pairs. Until the beginning of the war this kind of ships were found hundreds in seaside villages, even only Nida had 65 units of them.
