Between contemplation and fascination for imminent doom I seek Michelangelo's "terribilità", and where I found, for this painting, the bloated monstrosity bearing emperor Nero's birth name. Very circular in its internal dynamic, this piece is also strongly inhabited by the alternation of broad brushstrokes and very fine details in the Eye of the Cyclone. Second of the "PEPLVM" series, very large ink paintings inspired by volcanoes and their depiction in peplum movies, this continues my ongoing fascination for volcanoes and their eruptions, for "the mountain that speaks". Painted with pure india ink for a deep black and also boiled india ink for extra thickness, texture and sheen, this painting uses no dilution, the various greys are obtained with a dry brush or brushing with a rag. Framed with all hanging commodities.
