This strange piece is part a self-portrait, and part a portrait of my favorite painter, Francis Picabia. He was one of the early major figures of the Dada movement in the United States and France, so obviously he is dead. The idea of my artwork is to reflect his reincarnation, shaped into a woman's body, reclaiming the Dada movement for the Women. The Dadaists were a very exclusive group of people, either women and men, however, Art History only shows a small part of the involvement by the female community. And it was a big movement for women artists who expressed themselves with no limits in a multitalented, multidisciplinary manner yet not enough to be recognized nowadays... How sad that only male artists are taught in schools, at least in my time. Not anymore! If you are interested to find out more about "Dada for Women" check out the list below. Amazing women artists that fused painting, collage, and language in their unique and complex compositions. Hannah Höch Suzanne Duchamp Juliette Roche Sophie Taeuber-Arp Emmy Hennings Beatrice Wood Clara Tice Ella Bergmann-Michel Margaret Anderson Jane Heap Florine Stettheimer Mina Loy Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven

Hi, I am Marina Solé, Mixed media artist. I am from Barcelona living in San Francisco since 2011. What started as a small series of tiny "collages" has evolved into a personal collection of art pieces which I store all around the house like an intimate petit museum to inspire my daily life, in my evolving art process journey. The roots of each piece come from the spirit of nature, old memories, and dAdA art/surrealism, visually shaped in illustrations, oil paintings, collages, and representational sketches. The art I create includes faces, phrases, and places, mixed to evoke beautifully shy effortless nostalgia. Having a passion for what I do is my way of meditation to achieve a neutral state of contentment. The art process drives me to seek innovative ideas, or else revive forgotten ones both pure and sensitive, bringing the colorful ironies of life to the surface.
