About The Artwork

This is an original painting of the fields of Bazaleti in the Georgian countryside. In June of 2017 my wife and I went there for the plein air. It is one of my preferred places for the plein air, since it is only about 30 minutes drive from the capital city of Tbilsi. The beautiful valleys and crops fields look great against the low mountains and high hills. I love coming here at various summer and autumn months, since different crops and flowers change colors constantly due to the various flowering times. That mid June day was sunny, and it was the time for lavenders and some yellow flowers to bloom. The hunters were training their dogs in the tall grass close to my plein air spot. When I look at the picture, I remember dogs' continuous barking, the whistles of the hunters, the warmth of the sun kissing my skin and the delicate fragrances of the lavender. I hope that I could convey it in the picture. Painted on a gallery wrapped canvas, the picture is already framed with a green-blue frame, and it comes ready to hang. It is signed on the front with my initials in Georgian "Z" "Sh" (ზ.შ.). Thank you for your interest in my work.

Hello! Thank you for looking at my art and reading about me! My name is Zurab Sharvadze. I was born (in 1959) and raised in Tbilisi, Georgia and since my early childhood, I have always had a passion for art. My stepmother was the first one to notice it and gave me an easel and a set of oil paints when I was 14. Since then, my easel and I became inseparable. Following my father’s steps, I got my BS, MS and PhD in Nuclear Physics and worked at the Physics Research Institute until the collapse of the Soviet Union. Since the beginning of the 90s, I became the full-time artist. It was also the time of apprenticeship with some famous Georgian Artists like Temo Machavariani. The beautiful landscapes of my country Georgia are the constant source of my inspiration: Caucasus mountains, valleys with vineyards, meadows full of alpine flowers, pine forests, clear lakes and springs, the Black Sea. I also always take my portable easel and set of oil paints, when I travel abroad. From early spring through late autumn, you can often find me painting outside in the plein air in the mountains or the windy narrow streets of old Tbilisi. During the winter months is mostly studio work of still lives and portraits. The great artists that inspire me the most are Van Gogh, Cezanne, Gauguin, Degas, Mondrian. I participated in numerous Georgian and International Exhibitions. My works have been purchased by art collectors worldwide and can be found in the private collections in Great Britain, USA, Israel, Germany, France, Spain, and elsewhere. My paintings are all original and one-of-a-kind. All my canvases are built up with many layers of oil paints infused with flicks, drips and brushstrokes of paint resulting in a three-dimensional surface.
