Lavender Hush Painting

Lavender Hush Lavender Hush is another piece from a body of abstract expressionist paintings that I enjoy creating through some psychic automatism. It really is the freedom of creativity that gives me the pleasure. It starts off with an idea, like what colours I want to employ, a little composition to build the painting, but in keeping with the abstractive style throughout this series. Having said this, I would have an aim of where I want to arrive to help me along. Still, this work helps by extrapolating myself from strict restrictions that other work may require and lets me use some imagination. In this case, the initial inspiration was from a notion of colour and it took off from there. The sourcing idea of this ongoing series is a mollifying feeling, something to ease one’s mind, having anything to do with the lighter side to free oneself a little bit. This purpose is what I also like from this work, which I hope can be relayed to the viewer as well. The painting is a mixed media abstract piece, which was done on a gallery wrapped stretched canvas. I used some acrylic and vinyl paint, gesso and sparse wax coloured pencil hue marks to achieve the predominantly misty white, to a shading lilac and violet effect. All four sides are also painted neatly in purple to a fading lilac colour. So framing, is not required really, giving a modern look. One will find all of the markings and relative information on the back of the piece. So is the signature, with the intention and preference from the front as not to be a distraction from viewing.
