About The Artwork

Mixed media on torn edge canvas attached to recycled wood stretcher bars. The Kids (series by Kris Gebhardt) Painting 4 “Vision is the art of seeing what is invisible to others,” according to Jonathan Swift (1667-1745), well known satirist, poet, cleric and apparently overall overachiever. Artists, writers and parents live this quote on the daily. Painter and dad, Kris Gebhardt has portrayed what he, as artist and father, sees in his four children. Lickety Split Mixed Media Canvas On Reclaimed Wood 57" by 46" Depicting the two sides of daughter Alexa is what Kris Gebhardt does in Lickety Split. Her serious hardworking side — always training and always sparring — for the trophy, for the best time, for the win pitted against her stylish, feminine side. Looking closely, her tiny waist, sinewy legs and on the move pose shows this young woman is one serious competitor. The outfit is wild but also alludes to Olympic aspirations; paired with the high-heeled boots exhibit a sass and style that connects Alexa’s “tomboy” with her inner “girl.” The 57” x 46” painting, like many of Gebhardt’s other works, appears on a scrap piece of fabric that is stretched over wooden slats from under a bed. Once again we see the cardinal — to represent the previous generation cheering her on.
