For some reasons, my nights are very short and my head does not vacate. In my mind, images of the past and the present get continually projected. The night before I started this piece of work, I got lost in a cloud, and my head bound to rehearse some pages in the book of my life. Lying, eyes closed, a multitude of black bands appeared, popping out over a blue sky. A crowd of past acquaintances, met over the course of my life were clearly abounding in memory and whispered to me: "Richard, do you remember?" "Yes, of course I do." In a state of peaceful half-sleep, smiling, mouth utterly closed, nonetheless, we babbled in an abundant blaze of closeness. It doubtfully felt like I got under the grasp of some hallucinogenic substance; on the other hand, each night is lit by flashes of existence: Some are shared through artistry; others will remain in the meadow of intimacy. Thus were born some of my crafts.

Simon Richard Halimi is a seasoned expert of Griostism, "the African art of storytelling" which he likes to define and adapt to Westerners as follows: "GRIOTISM takes its source in life. (Good, Generosity, Love ... and the Opposite), the "GRIOT" refuses that a painted work be perceived in 2 mere passive and simplistic dimensions, like for written, visual, auditive work ... "Griotic" painting stand to count four: width, height, content (its soul) and story telling about life. The griot shouts out with his "work" the "multi-shallow faces" (Faces in French) and intimate "buttocks" (Fesses in French) of our lives. Simon Richard HALIMI was born in Tunis on February 2, 1943. From 1968 to 1974, every day after his work, he acts as a cultural animator and art critic on a voluntary basis. He animates several groups of painters gathered in many houses of youth and culture. Currently member of the French Artists, Independent Artists, Academy of Fine Arts of Saint Louis (Academician Associate). He will leave his homeland 20 years later for France where he still resides. In 1974 he moved to Ivory Coast with frequent trips to Central and West Africa. This has forced him to maintain contact with his relatives and painting, to multiple trips between Africa and France. He has been painting since the 1960s and has produced thousands o work pieces. In February 2003, Simon has left Africa and since then devotes himself fully to his art.
