About The Artwork
I had an extensive flower garden that featured Asiatic Lillies. The anthers reminded me of koi in a pool. When painting “Lillies and Koi” I used a 300 pound linen paper with a hot press finish to provide a smooth surface for an under coat of Holbein super white gouache. This enable the development of the Aquarelle extra fine watercolor painting, by a process of adding, changing and subtracting the colors of the images. The result is a vivid painting of exceptional depth enhancing the anther/koi images that appear as though they exist off the painting surface. The koi shadows projected onto the white petals below enhances the perception of depth.
