I have always been interested in architecture and geometric design that has an eye-catching shape. I like to work on paper in mixed media because I think it is easier for the buyer to pick great frames and the work itself is easier to store. Generally I just begin painting with no direction and let feelings, clash, contour, light and space tell me how to finish.

Marks art cannot be caged into one style. With no formal training in any type of art (a few local classes here and there) he likes to start with a mind empty of technical data like a blank slate and approach the canvas or paper with no preconceived idea of the final product. Many of his private home paintings he will add to years later, a line, scratch mark or erasure here or there. They are living pieces. Life never stays static. Modern art feels like it wants to keep on giving fresh ideas. Of course, once a piece is sold to a collector, it has hardened into its final product. Mark likes the freedom to explore new mediums, techniques, shapes and sizes on canvas or paper. His works can include acrylics, pencils, charcoal, oil sticks, artist crayons, pastels, eggshells, dirt, string, sand, watercolor, ink, wax, graphite, or tape. Mark uses elements in his work that explore motion, pushing and pulling, chaos, structure, many times mixing these elements to create interest. He has always been a fan of black and white art and has dabbled in black and white photography, on and off, for many years. Mark uses a lot of geometric themes and rarely uses bright colors. It seems his mind fluctuates between turmoil and organization all in the same painting session. And why not, the motion of one’s life is like that, back and forth. It is you the viewer who must make up the story or feelings associated with Mark’s art, or any abstract art. You may look thrice and have different opinions each time. This is the excitement of abstract art. Enjoy.
