Loneliness lost in the sea Painting

Therèse Jobse's work represents the many facets of her life. She grew up in a devout Christian family, in a small village on the coast of Zeeland (NL). Growing up by the sea meant that many of her memories take place on the beach, where she still seeks comfort today. At the age of 26 she was attracted to the big city of Amsterdam, so she moved there in search of freedom, anonymity and a faster paced lifestyle. When she moved, she said goodbye to her previous identity and spread her wings in the new, vibrant environment of Amsterdam. Jobse’s large-scale works contain intense and robust colors. Stormy movements are conveyed through a wide range of forms and surprising details. Jobse portrays her own positive and alluring energy as well as her extroverted personality in her abstractions and colors. She knows how to draw the viewer in and captivate, keeping the viewer’s attention long enough to allow them to get lost, and uncover what lies in the layers of paint. The canvases are so densely covered, that even the borders demand the viewer’s attention.
