About The Artwork

This is a beautiful rural area in Suffolk which has the beach on one side, a harbour and reed marshes. I grew up around here and I love to walk and paint en plein air to capture how I feel connected to this place. In summer its really busy with visitors but here I caught a quiet moment to myself looking back at the town - here I always feel safe and relaxed. I lived here for a while in my youth with my grandmother many years ago and now I feel caught up in time and I reflect on what has happened since both to me and the town. Watercolour is fluid, and here I used a gentle soft palette because its how I feel here. Recently after spending 6 years painting in Italy I have moved back here to live - love it. This location has been used in film settings many times.

Janine is a British artist who studied Fine Art at the Art Academy in London, under the guidance of Robin Lee-Hall PRP. Having spent the last six years painting in Italy she has now returned to the UK to focus on local art. She uses watercolour as her preferred medium on handmade paper, using colour and emotion to guide her in what is a more abstract take rather than traditional work. This is what Janine says about her work: “ We each need to create our own inner space, sometimes we need help to create that environment, which is where the artist can help. Art allows us forget, to dream and create fantasy: the child within us can be released from the everyday responsibility of our lives." My abstract work is influenced by Kandinsky and Hockney as well as the sculpture of Henry Moore and the classical art work of antiquity, which is what makes Rome so special in my heart”. This is what Chunghi Choo an artist and curator (USA) said about her work: “The watercolors of Janine Reeves are extremely well executed with her fluid motion and powerful strokes. She utilizes beautiful composition and color in her efforts to embody the emotional content of her work, creating a vitality especially present in her Pieta piece and collages.” This is what Lesleigh Salinger an art consultant (NZ) said about her work : " I thought they had a Constructivist feel to them, rather like those early Picassos done in Horta de Ebro at the beginning of his Cubist period: nice palette.
