About The Artwork

Lucky Duck is a Pop opera that ironically refers to the timeless Disney character, Scrooge McDuck. Known for his incalculable wealth as well as his greed, he represents the American myth of the man who has made his fortune on his own merits. In this painting his absolute richness is immediately rendered by the gold-coloured metallic acrylic of the background. The elegant figure of the richest Duck in the world, leaning on his cane, stands out vividly against this uniform gold, thanks to the consistent white of his real feathers and the bright colours of his clothes: a dark red tie stands out from the purple jacket, fastened at the waist by a gold belt studded with diamonds. The famous gaiters, here in delicate fuchsia, cannot be missing. Lucky Duck, the garment surmounted by an elegant black top hat with a gold ribbon, looks at us with a witty gaze, as if pleased with his elegance and possessions. The voluminous jute sacks in the foreground, studded with precious stones, are unable to contain the immense amount of real paper money, which overflows, sliding at the protagonist's feet. The Duck's enormous wealth is accentuated by the banknotes that break up in the background, forming geometries by which they seem to multiply infinitely. However, the money is Monopoly money, so the exaltation of Uncle Scrooge's wealth melts into an ironic and playful smile. This work manifests the great manual skill of the artist, who engages in the composition of real materials to give us, in a fine divertissement, the three-dimensional presence of the character. In particular, note the extreme meticulousness of the combination of feathers, worked one by one to give tangible and real shape to the mythical Duck, who comes out of the sphere of childhood memories to materialize before us in the fullness of his volume and his material appearance. My love for art began the very moment my memories originated. Even as a child, I liked to express myself with drawing and colours. I spent hours and hours tinkering with coloured pencils, crayons and felt-tip pens. I did my first painting when I was still a young girl, at the age of sixteen: a naïfs-style painting depicting a country landscape with rural buildings, completely shrouded in snow. I loved to go to the library and browse through art history books and exhibition catalogues to learn about famous painters and their works. Then I took to frequenting museums and any place rich in paintings and statues, such as ancient noble palaces and churches, of which my country, Italy, is so generous. As I studied the styles of the different historical periods and the characteristics of individual artists, I searched for my own identity. Those were the years of adolescence, then of the search for my own personal stylistic signature. Work in the art world has marked my entire career: I have designed fittings and set designs for haute couture brands and later devoted myself to garment design. In the meantime, I got married and had my daughter Nicole. I love animals; my dog Perla is my inseparable companion. I started painting again some years ago, after my experience as a stylist ended and my daughter grew up. The creative impulse I have in me is irrepressible and has driven me to pick up my paintbrush and palette again. When I paint, the melting pot of thoughts, feelings, emotions that I have in my soul takes shape day after day, idea after idea, brushstroke after brushstroke. All the immaterial inside me comes out and becomes material in the finished work: it is like magic.
