About The Artwork
I created Magnetic Black Hole by burying a donut shaped speaker magnet into a liquid concrete slurry. Concrete art is abstract art that is entirely free of any basis in observed reality and that has no symbolic meaning. Then I excavated a hole into the centre in the same way that I imagined Henry Moore would have done. My sculpture was painted thereafter turning it into a white painting after Kazimir Malevich’s zero point in painting. The magnetic energy shows through the steel wool that was applied referring to the push and pull attraction of any black hole. The painted black hole remains unseen.

Those ideas persuaded me to attend the University of Victoria where I earned my BFA (Hons) by 1992. The target was to develop a symbolic metalanguage to facilitate deconstructive events while perusing the ideas of painting in Western art history. I have expressed myself conceptually through gouged plywood painting, encaustic painting, kinetic painting, glitter painting, nano painting and pure substrateless painting in a style I think of as reductive but thoughtful.
