About The Artwork

“Malkia wa savannah” in Kiswahili means “Queen of the savannah”. But don't just look at the lioness, look into your fantasy, think about what this queen is looking at, and imagine the paradise she lives in: the savannah. The savannah can have a thousand different landscapes and can live a thousand contrasting moments. It is up to you to imagine this exact moment. What is it? What is happening around the protagonist? Is a green prairie wet by a sudden rain, an arid and sunburnt landscape, many large or small mammals, colorful birds? Her puppies? Is she full or maybe waiting for the hunt? Is she relaxed, or just unaware of what will happen in a moment? Purposely the background is not defined, paint this picture with me. Paint it yourself, in your imagination, as best your imagination and desire can express themselves. I just gave you a different point to look at. A good painting requires your attention and, like a good book or a good movie, it can give you many emotions.

The passion for drawing, painting, and to a small extent sculpture, have always been in me. Pencil and colors have always been my favorite games. Fate did not lead me to develop the possibilities that my natural gifts offered me. However, they have remained in me and I believe that I cannot express myself better than with a brush in my hand. I believe that it is not only studies and courses that make an artist, but his intense passion and commitment to create something that comes from within and is realized on a canvas. In the early part of my life, I made paintings in various techniques, mostly pencils, charcoals, and watercolors. The processing of clay and various decorative techniques in the years '90/2000 has given me much satisfaction. Someone says that there is no house in my city that does not have a small work of mine. In the '10s, however, I abandoned my artistic passion for a job that I adore and that fills my life and has become my second great passion, Africa. In fact, at the age of fifty, I moved from Italy to Kenya. The realization of a Lodge took me full of feelings, passion, and time. Now, the sad event of a worldwide pandemic has given me many worries but also a lot of free time. While waiting for the return to a normal and full working life, I rediscovered my first old passion, painting. In contact with amazing nature, with a fascinating and evocative culture, I try to convey Africa that I love the most. I have the presumption of wanting to excite those who look at one of my paintings and I hope to be able to convey something that goes beyond the moment of a glance but transmits a touch in the soul of those who appreciates my work.
