This painting was inspired by the artists stay in Kreuzberg in the late 1980s, when he was doing his Master's at the Hochschule der Künste. It was around the time Wim Wenders's iconic film was being made there, and around the time the Berlin Wall fell. The character depicted in the painting is a circus performer in Wenders's film, called "Marion", the character that the film's angel protagonist falls in love with.
