Maxwell Painting

This work was inspired by the traumatic accident I was in in May of 2017 where I was struck by a car traveling 48mph while in a pedestrian crosswalk in downtown Phoenix, Arizona. The anthropomorphic cactus man, Maxwell, is a representation of how where we live becomes a part of us as our experiences there shape who we are; just as my experience here in the desert (Arizona) is shaping who I am due to the long-reaching impact of the accident on my life. At the same time, it also represents how the landscape can come alive and become an entity unto itself. I enjoy giving humanistic qualities to things that are not considered to be living, almost like imaginary friends come to life. This piece is meant to be both cool and a little unnerving all at the same time.
