About The Artwork

In the world of aesthetics, there exists a mesmerizing partnership that transcends time and captivates the senses—the enchanting combination of oxidized iron and copper. This artistic interplay between two elemental forces results in a symphony of colors and textures that harmonize with the natural world, creating a visual spectacle that is both rustic and refined. The transformation begins when iron, exposed to the elements, undergoes oxidation—a process where it reacts with oxygen to form iron oxide, commonly known as rust. As this rusty patina evolves, it sets the stage for the entrance of copper, a metal known for its rich and warm hues. Together, they weave a tale of collaboration that unfolds in the intricate dance of chemistry and aesthetics. One cannot help but marvel at the organic beauty that emerges from this union. The rusty reds and browns of oxidized iron provide a rugged backdrop, reminiscent of the earth's natural landscapes, while the copper introduces a touch of elegance with its radiant greens and blues. The result is a palette that mimics the passage of time, as if nature itself were an artist, meticulously crafting a masterpiece on the canvas of oxidized iron. Beyond their visual allure, the combination of oxidized iron and copper also showcases the resilience of materials over time. The weathering of iron and the patination of copper tell a story of endurance, reminding us that even in the face of decay, there is a unique and timeless beauty to be found. Whether adorning architectural elements, sculptures, or everyday objects, the marriage of oxidized iron and copper adds a touch of sophistication to the mundane. Gardens adorned with weathered iron gates and copper fixtures evoke a sense of nostalgia, connecting us to the past while celebrating the enduring beauty of the present.

Paul was born and grew up in The Netherlands. When he was 24 he moved to Germany and after 7 years to the south of Spain. His surname is really Arts by the way. Although he has worked as a physician for 35 years, his interest in the arts has only increased in time. In 2018 he started painting professionally. Often portraits and initially realistic, but over time more and more abstract. He also builds a food forest and has recently switched to painting with purely natural materials such as pigments (which he often searches for himself), linseed oil, egg yolk, gum arabic, charcoal, etc. A logical step according to Paul.
