The artist visited Mexico City in the Summer of 2019 for the first time and was blown away by the layers of history this city had tucked within its infrastructure. Greatly inspired by the oldest neighborhood of the Coyoaćan District, the multitude of Sky Scrapers, the outlying desert, bordering mountains and volcanoes, and the 10,000 years of Cultural History and Anthropology, this painting is a direct expression of the harmony between all of these things. There is a pulse in Mexico City unlike anywhere else, and yet one feels right at home there. The people have so much heart for their country. It is full of vibrance and respect for their land. The history one can learn at the Museum of Anthropology is some of the most mind opening information about how long cultures have been around and how their lives shift through the lands and building. This painting has been worked on for nearly a year and layered up just as Mexico City has been. The artist was incredibly influenced by the juxtaposition of styles in the city; from rubble to modern etc. The painting boasts the most vibrant colors just as the city does to it anyone passing through. This painting is a polyptych ( 4 panels ) and will brighten up any room. It requires a large wall to fit all four panels ( each sized at 36" x 48" ).

Born and raised in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, Chelsea Owens was an instantaneous creative visionary. Her early years consisted of collaborative mural paintings, theater, design, photography, and illustration. She attended art programs at the Corcoran School of Art and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst; followed by an artist residency abroad in France. She graduated from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco with a BFA in Production Design and worked in the film/ tv/ theater/ & commercial industry’s art department in LA and SF while collaborating as an art director for many events and installations; including Burning Man Art Festival. In her early twenties, Chelsea moved to Europe and resided near Milan, Italy; focusing exclusively on oil painting for the next decade. She returned to California to raise a family and continued to paint and exhibit internationally. Her artworks have been featured at such places as Art Basel in Switzerland and Carousel de La Louvre Museum. She began teaching art to children of all ages and hosted “art retreats” for adults. After 20 some years, Chelsea came back to the one place she has ever truly called home: The Bay Area. Emerging in a community of creatives post pandemic purgatory, she continues her artistic career with oil paintings that depict explorative depths of the inner and external landscapes we live in; fusing hints of reality with psychological innuendos and infinite imagination to be interpreted and physically felt by viewers. Through color alchemy, texture, technique, and a multitude of layering, these artworks convey a narrative of their own; revealing vulnerability and succession within the membrane of her creative world and visual conquest; ultimately searching for a peaceful harmony between the internal and external world. Her art evaluates the current state of the heart, mind, body, and soul and allows taking risks that ordinarily challenge the human race day to day. Painting is her love language; stirring and inspiring the imagination. Her portfolio can be viewed at: chelseaowens.com IG: @chelseaowensart
