About The Artwork

The work is part of the series "Mengenlehre" (Set theory). Definition (Cantor's Definition of Set (1895)) "By a 'set' we understand every aggregation of certain well-differentiated objects of our of our view or thought (which are called the 'elements' of) into a whole." The series "Mengenlehre" examines in drawing and painting connections and dynamics that arise in crowds of people. arise. Large groups are always initially perceived in their entirety. They merge with each other, Individual people dissolve in it, others stand out nevertheless. Some things remain shadowy, only briefly graspable. Individuals appear and disappear again in the crowd. The crowd connects with what is behind it and dissolves into it in parts. It remains confusing. Crowds can be very different: brave, hysterical, celebrating, frightened, exuberant, euphoric, exhausted, threatening, demanding, harmless, impertinent, curious, ... But how does this collective agreement develop? How do individuals become a mass? What makes the mass with the individual? How does the individual act in the mass? Does the simple accumulation already make us a unity? When is the crowd protecting and when does it become oppressive? What positive, what negative energy can a crowd develop?
