A person constantly evolves and changes, sometimes in positive and sometimes in negative ways. As time passes we learn to unfold ourselves. How? Why? Everything that happens to us, every expierence we gather along the way leads to a transformation and this is what I want to express with my series. The tansformations we go through aren’t just physical, but mainly mental, emotional and psychological. It is the butterfly that ispired me to paint this series. The butterfly wings I painted are used as a symbol to represent the transformation every single one of us goes through. In the ancient times the butterfly was a symbol for reincarnation and it was also said that the soul of the dead continued to live inside of those creatures. Apart from that a butterfly represented the psyche of a human being. Even nowadays, in the christian art, the buttefrly stands for reincarnation and rebirth. The different situations in our everyday life force us to change and grow, just like the butterfly changes from en egg into a caterpiller, then into a cocoon and then into a butterfly. We all have wings that carry us forward and let us see things from an entirely different perspective. The direction we walk in, the way we act, the things we say and the choices we make, even the way we think. These things get clearer while we go through our transformation, but there are infinite ways we can go, infinite ways we can think, talk and act and we can only explore these ways if we go through a constant tranformation, a transformation that never ends. In order to be able to express all of these things in my paintings I used Mixed Media. I used oil colors, acrylic colors, collage and airbrush.

Sabine Iyi was born in Germany in 1969. She graduated from the André Gérard Art School in Hamburg, in 1991 and at the same time she worked at the Atilier Najla for one year. She began to work in different departments in the textile branche, for example sales, design and purchasing, in 1992. In 1995 she moved to Turkey and focused on her paintings, which led to her opening her first art studio in Zekeriyaköy, in 2005. There she devoted herself to painting and sculpturing and with the help and support of other artists, for example Ibrahim Kaloshi, she highly improved her skills and tecniques in sculpturing. Furthermore, she started her education in photography in 2006 and completed it one year later. After shutting down her art studio in Zekeriyaköy, she opened a new one in İstinye, in order to continue to practice her work. Moreover, she has completed assignments, in the departments painting and decoration, for national and international companies; for example she made the stage decorations for “Ebru İlayda Bale Dance School” ‘s ballet “Swan Lake” in the Iş Kulesi in 2012. In the same year she participated in the art exhibition “Göç Sanat; Art of Migration”, which took place in the Cezayir Gallery in Istanbul. Furthermore, Sabine managed and organized the art project (“Mozaik Projesi”) of the International Federation of Business and Professional Women (BPW), which had two exhibitons with the theme “Women”, in 2013 in Istanbul, in which she took part aswell. The first exhibition took place in “Levent Kültür Merkezi” and the second one in “Caddebostan Kültür Merkezi”. Throughout the Mozaik Project Sabine taught girls from different cultures and problematic familiar situations how to improve their skills in painting and how to use art as a way to express themselves. In 2014 she had a group exhibition in Bursa, in the gallery “Puca Sanat Galerisi” with the artist Taner Yılmaz. Today, Sabine is working on a new series of sculptures called “Transformation”, in which she uses her own personal tecniques to make her art even more expressive and extraordinary.
