About The Artwork

Metacirrhosis is part of an ongoing exploration on transhumanism and deep ecology, which sometimes concludes in images of deconstructed biological beings and forms of life, reconstructed afterwards in different semiotical anatomies. The painting is inspired by the feeling of humane corporality as opposed to deep sea forms of life and algae, the primordial ecosystem from which every form of life evolved. The cultural hierarchisation that sees the human being as the most evolved species, is aimed at being questioned through this particular visual research, by inviting the viewer to immerse himself in the visuality of the interlaced tones and shapes, fragmented anatomies and textures that expose an alternative biological posthumanist being. The painting is mounted on a wooden stable frame, ready to be hanged; it is fragile due to the paper, and must be kept out of humid conditions.

My work engages with philosophical theories, spirituality, science, literature, ontology of art, centering on the semiotics of art objects, filtered through a self referential lens. Subjects such as dreaming, magical practices, embodiment and synaesthesia are recurrent in my work. I currently live and work between Bucharest and Berlin, constantly travelling and looking for ideas. I finished my MA studies on Fine Arts, Graphics and Spatial Strategies, in Bucharest and Berlin. In my artistic research I am constantly driven by the liminality between forms and content and the way it produces artistic and cultural meaning, across various mediums such as sound, performativity, painting, drawing and writing. My works draw mostly from personal experiences, synaesthesia, recurring dreams and obsessions, with references to cultural theory, onirism, western literature, contemporary discourses, quantum physics, dark ecology and eastern esoterism. The medium with which I engage mostly is painting, which I also asthetically research and look for ways to redefine or reflect on it, by adding a multidisciplinary approach, and exploring it in installations, interventions and performances.
