About The Artwork

The aim of the author is to examine the relationship between what it means to be human and the world of nature, opening up the possibility to get a view of her experience. The selected works represent multi-faceted emotions the author experienced while working on the paintings. Through her works, the artist meets her inner self, and this deep connection is reflected in the colour scheme and technique of the paintings. She asks herself: “Does nature offer a solution to various emotional states?” On the canvas, the painter depicts landscapes that reflect her emotional life. In her artwork you can find different figures that are derived from the life of the artist. Do the views depicted actually represent nature or are they merely images from the life script of the painter? When the motives from the nature chosen by the artist end up on a canvas, they already have a new meaning. Instead of being merely landscape views they are reflections of her personal emotions. While painting, the author wanted to leave reality behind and let her fantasies take over. Mysterious shapes and shadows emerge on the canvas as a result of some random brushwork. Therefore the title is Emotional Landscapes. Landscapes that are led directed by an inner force and by her emotional feelings. Nature offers us inspiration and consolation, enabling us to listen to our inner voice. Today’s urban lifestyle is very fast-paced and doesn’t leave enough space to be alone with yourself.

Drawing inspiration from the Minimalist Expressionism, Alisa Jakobi renews the idea of landscape by injecting living elements of fauvism into traditional lanscape painting. Her exploration of the relationship between the conscious and unconscious mind is not restricted to a mere descriptive approach, but it provides the viewer of a deep and incessant process of connection between the inner reality and the outside world. She studied in the Estonian Academy of Arts, completing a BA in Graphic Design in 2005. Later she left Estonia for three years to get new inspiration and experience in New York. In 2010 she finished her MA in Art studies in the Tallinn University. Alisa studied in the School of Visual Arts in NYC for a year, worked for Rockaway Graphics as a graphic designer. Painting has been her parallel activity during the past 16 years. Alisa is working in a minimalist expressionist style, with elements of fauvism. Her recurring topics are the reconciliation of humans with nature and about the relationship between the conscious and unconscious mind. She also developed a concept called Time to Dance, where she is talking about the depth of the human mind and the changing roles in life of men and women. Her works are in private collections in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, France, Israel, USA, UK, Macedonia, Russia, Australia.
