About The Artwork
The tiny ceramic fish that modeled for this painting was bought in a trinket shop in Kagurazaka, Tokyo. It was always been a good companion and so it got its own portrait! This painting was exhibited by the Japan Modern Art Society in Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum in 2016. With the combination of the vibrant shiny red and the cool, soft background, I hope viewers will feel the tranquility and peace of the ponds koi carps live in and of nature in Japan, while at the same time sensing the sharp beauty and strength of its people and culture. Painting this was both exciting and relaxing. I hope viewers will enjoy the company of this tiny little fish too!
