About The Artwork

Oil on Panel 36X48 Mixed Media 2.5 Museum Wrap Panel Semi-Precious Stones ORIGINAL – this is the original, there are no reproductions done or going to be done of this piece Ready to hang, no frame required This piece is was so fun to create and a personal favorite of mine due to all the amethyst that I used. I found myself just running my hands across the amethyst and admiring them while I was painting this piece. Amethyst is one of my favorite stones, I wanted to use them as more of a cluster to make it grand and powerful. Each piece was special and unique and I had so much fun laying them out and using them and I am so happy how it came together as a whole. I wanted to do a mountain scene, I thought that the amethyst looked like mountains when I put them together, how they were rough like a mountain terrain. I tried using pieces that resembled peaks and laid them out like a mountain range. I used other forms of the amethyst such as the sticks to resemble trees and the other slices of amethyst to add more dimension and depth to the mountains as well. All the semi precious stones on this painting are ALL amethyst, just in different forms. The small chips that resemble rocks are just polished amethyst. It was fun to use so many different forms yet all amethyst. The “moon” is also a slice of amethyst, I got it from a dealer here in San Diego. It was broke and thought that it was an amazing piece which made me want to use it as a reflection and thought of a moon and wanted to do a lake scene with it. I then used mica to further define the amethyst mountains and tying them together. The mica is from a mine in South Dakota that I got from a dealer in Colorado. They say you can just pick them up off the ground all over. I loved the mica and thought that by using it in this painting it really made the scene come together. This painting really catches the light in ever light setting. I wanted the “moon” amethyst slice to really shine and stand out in this painting. I wanted the clouds to come in and make you focus on the amethyst slice or “moon” and the beauty of that piece of stone. The mica sparkles along with the amethyst when light is directly on it, but the painting still has that strong feel of when the moon is just coming up over the horizon making things barely seen from the sparse moon light, where things are just visible enough to make out but not be too strong or vivid. I wanted to capture that emotion in this painting. Stones Used: Amethyst: Treats insomnia, relives tension, helps overcome grief and loss, brings about spiritual awareness, constricting thinking and acting, good for skin, alleviates pain, lowers blood pressure, releases imbalances. Connects with spirituality and provides contentment. Clears the aura and relieves dysfunctional energy located within the body. Useful during meditation to promote and maintain a calm and peaceful state. Encourages sobriety, promotes sleep and combats headaches. Good for third eye chakra. Sign of Pisces, Virgo, Aquarius & Capricorn. Mica: It is used to improve visions and clarity in mysticism. It is said to help eliminate negative personality traits by helping one recognize them. Mica is said to enhance flexibility in all realms and also assist growth in those areas. It is used to diminish anger, hostility, and nervous energy. Mica aligns energy of the body and releases blockages of energy within the body. http://meanings.crystalsandjewelry.com/mica/?q=mica Elements Series; incorporating semi-precious stone and unique pieces of the earth in a creative way. This painting is part of my mixed media “ELEMENTS” Series where I want to bring in elements on the earth into my art. I love nature, I love finding things that have been created by nature such as semi precious stones and other items from the earth. I love working with and showcasing the unique beauty that you find in each semi precious stone. I work with mostly Grade A and B semi precious stones; sometimes I use the same stones that are in rough form before they are faceted that you see in a fine piece of jewelry. Most of the stones I use have been gathered for a year in order to incorporate together into my art. I get them from all around the world from various locations and venders. Each semi precious stone also has individual properties that generate energetically from the stones. This is by wearing the stone, touching the stones and by having them in a room in your home. I encourage people to touch the stones on the art to resonate with the properties. I have included some of the properties of the stones in the description so you will be aware of their specific properties; some are healing, energizing, loving, calming, resonate with different chakras, and evoke emotions. I hope you enjoy them as much as I love creating them. Materials used: Semi Precious Stones; Amethyst

Art and creativity are deeply rooted in Tesa Michaels, a fifth generation artist and third generation fine artist. From a young age she was immersed in a creative atmosphere that offered constant inspiration and a family that nurtured her artistic endeavors and encouraged her to be a professional artist. In grammar school she won art contests, was advanced in her artistic skill for her age, at the age of 12 painting her first oil painting taught by her mom, painting murals for schools. Tesa’s grandmother and mother introduced and taught many mediums to Tesa, who gravitated toward fine art, drawing and painting. At age 17, Tesa was accepted into her first national show, and she taught the art class during the last semester of her senior year of high school. Tesa attended The Art Institute of Colorado, studying fine art then graphic design. Following school, she worked in the graphic design field, in printing as an art and marketing director for a health products company, and in advertising at J. Walter Thompson as an art director working on Ford Motor Company commercials. Realizing she had moved too far from her roots as a fine artist, Tesa began a new career as a professional artist focusing on oil paintings. Wanting to share her enthusiasm and technical skills as an artist, Tesa has taught art workshops and classes at The Showcase Art Center and Aims Community College in Greeley, Colorado. In Colorado, she studied under Clifford T. Bailey, who helped her develop and fine-tune her oil painting skills and helped her to find her voice as a fine artist. “He has encouraged me and influenced me as an artist and mentor; for that I will be forever grateful, which will forever reflect in my work as an artist.” As a Colorado native fond of that state’s lakes and mountains, Tesa has always been inspired by nature. Tesa now lives in San Diego, where she enjoys the ocean and beach. She has always been intrigued with the bold colors painted in the sky at sunset and loves re-creating them on canvas. It comes very naturally….. So it comes so natural to Tesa to paint landscapes, skies, mountains and seascapes. “I try to capture that one amazing moment when the colors line up perfectly in the sky and landscapes, when the values are strong and bold.” Tesa captures the bold essence of nature in her paintings, she captures that small, simple moment in time where the light hits the landscapes perfectly, which will takes your breath away.
