1983,LondonHello/Ciao/hola/bonjour/I'm Camilla, an altermodern English painter.I like to see the work of other artists more through this site and regularly browse through. My recent work is still focused on abstraction and the female form but my style is informed by sensuality and symbolism. Press Release May 2010: Following a sell-out inaugural show in 2008, this will be Camilla Haslers second solo exhibition at the Hepsibah Gallery, London. The exhibition comprises sixteen works influenced by the handling of paint by the mid-century Masters. Combining traditional oils with iridescent acrylics, Haslers versatile art remains underpinned by deft draughtsmanship and sensuality due to her sexuality. In these works, the female form and nightscapes are surrounded by liquid colour and fugitive shapes that seek to isolate the subject and onlooker, creating an intimate distorted reality for the viewer that is perplexing. Light is a key component of all the pieces in this exhibition, creating an intimate and sultry reality that basks in an air of edgy mystery. My recent work has been to do with the theme of movement of 'Fugitivism' this is where shapes represent my own and my subjects estrangement from the viewer, creating a parallel universe of colour and light. My painting at the moment is ecclectic and so I am free to experiment. I have been painting various subjects and imagery lately. They are about painting effects and I really like using metallic paint, pearlescent and irridescent paint at the moment. These works are on here 'Fragments' and 'Feeling. Some works are more traditional such 'Madonna with the Long Neck' and 'Veil'. My early work has been influenced by the Italian painting and portraiture tradition due to my training there. Also I was able to study a treatise and works by the Italian genius' Leonardo Da Vinci. Leonardo was an artist with a strong interest in science and natural phenomena. My work now is influenced by this approach, an interest in natural phenomena. I like the qualities and colours available in contemporary paint. A painters work through time reflects the properties and colours of the paints available in their lifetime aswell as their vision of the world around them. Flourescent colours are to me the pigments of the moment, sythetic, industrial paints. I am most interested in creating new movements or themes in painting and some of my work now follows a specific theme which I have called 'Flourescence'.
