Mother to Be Painting

This painting was inspired by three women in my life who want to have children. In one case, the woman was told that she would not be able to have children and the image bears a likeness to her. When I posted this painting online for the first time, my friend commented "Is that me?" and I responded "yes". I am pleased to announce that she now has a beautiful girl. I am not saying that this painting had anything to do with her successful pregnancy, however, the power of intention, grace, and coincidence sure makes this painting extra special in my heart. At this time there are many viewpoints with regard to pro-life decisions. While this painting is not meant to be political, it shows the baby inside its mother, which we usually only get to see in a sonogram and not in this type of detail. At the stage represented in this painting, it is clear to see that this is a living human being. I hope this painting inspires pregnant women to be present and conscious, and truly appreciate the miracle of life that is growing inside them. To the "Mothers To Be" all around the world, I wish you a blessed and perfect pregnancy and may your baby be born healthy in every way. I chose to use oil paint so that I could blend the colors better and to be able to use some translucent colors over the fetus to create the dress. I used the paint spatula to create the city and hill behind her, which is also another reason I chose to work with oil.
