Themes from life are often found on Slavko Ferlan's canvases, and the pubs is certainly one of his favorite themes to which the painter is emotionally attached. He tried to capture the pubs life and atmosphere of the once haunted place and meeting place of famous and infamous writers and poets, journalists, actors, painters and sculptors... On the other hand, the pubs was also a shelter for the homeless, bohemians, would-be travelers, students, prostitutes. Artistic and literary works were created there, literary discussions were held, and the first manifestos were born. Unfortunately, those pubs are slowly but surely disappearing, and banks, fast food restaurants, exclusive cafes and other signs of transition are opening in their place. In those new "pubs", some other, less romantic rules of behavior apply today, which are in line with modern life. There are few of those old, well-known cafes left.
