ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Mustangs, and Horses in colour. A patchwork of equine studies. Early in 2020, I spent some time in the mountains and desert of California, and the lushness of Florida. The experience of the mountains and desert of California was expanding in many senses, such a vast land, open and generous like the people that I met, and warmth and wonderful natural light. These paintings express optimism for me, the feeling that the world is opened out and filled with colour and I express it once again with my horses. My visions of horses hope to evoke both power and vulnerability, compassion and trust, poise, and movement. I paint spontaneously in high-quality acrylics, varnishes, and inks, building up multiple layers, adding and removing areas of paint, using brush, palette knife, fingers, and trailing liquid acrylics, and using sticks and feathers to make marks and symbols within the fabric of the paint.
