About The Artwork

My Matisse I, is a tribute to the French artist Henri Matisse, born 1869. In 1941, he underwent surgery in which a colostomy was performed. Afterwards he started using a wheelchair until his death in 1954 aged 87. Whilst confined to his wheelchair, Matisse set about creating cut paper collages, called gouaches découpés. His most prominent pieces were his 'Blue Nudes'. This is one of 2 paintings that plays on the blue disabled sign turning it into a Blue Nude piece. It shows the blue figure trying to break the constrains of confinement. Matisse's work was very much without restraint and shows freedom of expression, form and colour.

Watch out for my next series of works West meets East as well as my 'modern twist' series. Born and raised in Lincolnshire, UK I write, draw, paint and create. I am a dreamer, constantly creating in my head. My imagination is like no other but I cannot imagine living my life without it! I am married and have 3 kids. I am a Teaching Assistant in a local Secondary Academy, husband and Artist. I believe the secret to life is happiness and I am in constant awe at how beautiful and incredible life is. I write scripts for video games and graphic novels although I have nothing published yet. I have a varied artistic style believing that an artist should be versatile when creating their work. I don't write or paint for anyone except myself; Im not pretentiousness and don't feel the need to impress. Art shouldn't be 100% subjective, the line must be drawn. joby.luckett@hotmail.co.uk
