My Red Umbrella Painting

I began slowly applying color to this canvas....... using knives, I continued the applications, layer over layer as each dried. As the texture began building, I recalled having seen a woman walking alone enveloped by this bright umbrella. Her cadence was slow and methodical, and it seemed to me she was deep in thought and encapsulated in her own world. As I proceeded to capture her image the painting began to take on a very different appearance. Colors became darker in areas and yet I allowed the underpaintings to peek through. I wanted to evoke her emotional path, without showing her face. The viewer may consider her to be alone and lonely, or to the contrary...........someone strong and able to walk alone!!! This is a gallery wrapped canvas, varnished and painted with finished edges so no framing is required. This painting was juried into a digital display in New York City for Armory Artweeks! All art work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
