About The Artwork
Blue bird-of-paradise (Paradisornis rudolphi), New Guinea. This incredible bird has lived in its paradise for millennia, and now we're destroying it so we can make biscuits more cheaply (etc.). There may be as few as 2500 left. Alkyd oils on board, with acrylic underpainting and additional use of graphite pencil and marker pen. Board edges white. Signed and dated bottom center. Size 50 x 50 cm (19.7 x 19.7 inches), edge depth 2.1 cm (0.8 inches). This painting forms part of a series of 3 which can be hung together, with "Seleucidis melanoleucus" and "Cicinnurus regius".
