About The Artwork
After a visit to this place in Newfoundland, Canada I created a mystery in my head about something lost and needed to be retrieved at this remote location. I chose a slightly urban looking dog, kind of an unlikely hero and depicted her in an aspirational pose. I wanted the land to be slightly tilted to create a slight sense of an unreal landscape. I kind of think of it as a book cover to a novel for young adults- like Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys in the 50's and 60's and that inspired the title as well.

While my painting is typically representational – some pieces move into abstraction. I usually pursue a particular theme for several years running or until the question/investigation has run its course. Currently I'm focused on dogs and fish. My background in sculpture informs the way I think about constructing or building a painting- placing figures together in postures of my choosing.
