About The Artwork

From the New Wave serie. The past is not fixed. The past dances. Recovering experiences from my past serves as an act of meditation, in the search for the expression of concepts such as alienation and claustrophobia. I spent most of my life in Ceuta, a small Spanish territory in the North of Africa, which is only connected through land with Morocco via one of the world´s most conflictive borders. The rest of the city is surrounded by both the Mediterranean sea and the Atlantic ocean, meeting in the strait of Gibraltar. I reflect about the sea, a ruthless wall keeping us imprisoned inland and yet the only way out, provoking a love-hate relationship with my roots: the sun, the beaches, the fishing tradition and the stillness of time in a place of permanent inactivity.
