Nickolovskovitchssssque, the Union of Elfin Skill Painting

All of my paintings have a sense of the time in my life during which they were produced. This painting was created when the possibilities of becoming a full time artist became very real in my mind. Now, in life, events and occurrences that effect us can be either spontaneous and almost thrust upon us, or things we plan and create for ourselves. In order to give myself direction, I find I must first dream or indeed conjure up my ideas of where I want to be and where I want to go.... This applies to artistic endeavours in particular, using creative means to create a future, moulding or indeed carving a niche in which to reside, constantly on the move and experimenting with new ideas. To me, this concept places itself firmly in the realms of fantasy, of dreams, or the oneiric, of ventures to lush almost paradisiacal pastures, of roles in life that are outside of what is ordinary. So, I play with concepts that I draw from my subconscious and realise them in the form of these abstract expressionistic works. I symbolise notions that occur in my fantasy, my way of interpreting my life in a way that is interesting, hopefully beautiful to the audience. I believe this piece to be a great example of my relationship with fantasy, with the constant notion of 'the grass being greener' on the other side. Adherence to this principal is often paramount as an artist, there is no set formulae as to how one proceeds and progresses but it certainly helps to attempt to map things out using symbolism of the concepts, the driving forces behind my work, often the realisation of fantastical principals, creations of the subconscious manifested as somewhat arcane works... As with many of my paintings, with this piece I consciously aimed to be intricate and put great emphasis on technique and skill, very much a reflection of my dreams and driving forces behind my artistic endeavour.
