Nine Maidens Painting

Fossilized tree trunks, drawn and photographed on Borth beach, Wales, are clothed in seaweed, detach themselves from their earthly bonds and float in a continuous dance of old and new transformation. The symbolism is loosely based on Welsh mythology, where nine maidens tend the fire below the Cauldron of the "Chief of Annwn”. This theme is linked to my own roots and connection to my welsh identity but also displacement. The lines and floating forms lead the viewer through an oneiric journey through many thousand of years that link a mystical past to an ambivalent present. I want the colours and forms to suggest many interpretations that aren't simply linked to their location but link with the viewer's own imagination.
