About The Artwork

Often the ideas behind my work come from a starting point of something happening in my daily life, either something I am directly involved in, something relevant to that day, or an event that may have been in the news. 9th April 2021 - My very good friend Mo was 75 today. Prince Philip died. He was 99. It was also my Siamese cat’s birthday, although he died many years ago. His name was Sunny Jim. He was one of the best pets I ever had. He was one of the best cats I ever met. This is a mixed media painting on 250 gsm acid free mixed media paper. Acrylic paint, ink pastels, pencil, acrylic markers and collage.

Although the name I am now using is Natalie Parsons, my previous name was Natalie Ballard. Some of my paintings are signed as Natalie Ballard. I will try and add both names to the back of all paintings! I have had a varied and exciting career over the last 25 years. I have worked as a textile designer, an artist, a graphic & web designer and a flash animator. I have created many animations for television shows for the BBC, Channel 4, E4, and Channel 5, and I have met some inspirational people along the way. I always had a passion for art, drawing, textiles, and making and documenting things. I'm excited by life, people, especially things that make me laugh. Anything in my daily life can be a starting point for a painting, and I love the idea that a work takes on a life of it's own and leads me where it wants to go. I grew up in Hertfordshire. I moved to Sussex to go to college, and ended up staying here. I have lived in Brighton on the south coast of England for 22 years. I hope you enjoy viewing my work as much as I enjoyed making it.
