About The Artwork

Viewing a famous fossil of a prehistoric bird and of simple multicellular organisms gave me the idea of doing them coming to life...but in a Surrealist perspective. The background dessert scene with it's camel was intuitive. To get the details of the prehistoric multicellular organisms there needed to be in the foreground but from a closeup perspective. The colors of the dessert always intrigues me because they seem to always be changing but at the same time timeless.

I was born in Devonport, New Zealand and grew up in Auckland, New Zealand. Now we live in Santa Ana, Costa Rica with my wife, Artist Natalia Wallwork. My influences are from Ancient and Tribal Art, particularly Mayan Art but I'm also influenced by the great Surrealist artist, Salvador Dali. The underlying concept of my art though is the importance of our connection with the natural world, therefore a lot of my subject matter are the Birds, Animals and Fish of our planet. I sign my artworks 'Hilton', my middle name after my great grandmother, Hanna Hilton.
