About The Artwork

This piece draws inspiration from the endangered animals of the Andes, specifically an emblematic bear species in Ecuador. The iconic image of a mama bear with her two or three cubs near the road has become a spectacle, fostering a growing love for these creatures since 2013. Despite increased awareness, this species remains endangered, facing a reduction in its natural habitat. Through my artwork, I aim to bring attention to the beauty and uniqueness of these amazing animals, highlighting the importance of conservation efforts. Crafted on watercolor paper, this piece is presented unframed, and for an enhanced display, framing is recommended. Hardware for hanging is not included. Additionally, there is a print edition available, maintaining the essence of the original work, ready to captivate viewers with the majesty of these endangered bears.

An Ecuadorian artist, navigates the local artistic landscape with a distinctive approach, diverging from the typical dichotomy prevalent among Quitenian artists. Rather than aligning with the bohemian left or the elite, art-educated right, Angela embraces her identity as an ambitious Quitenian with a down-to-earth perspective. Balancing her artistic pursuits with a middle-class sensibility, Angela introduces a unique voice in the narrative of Ecuador's art scene. She modestly considers herself a sui generis expressionist, influenced by her early exposure to art through her mother, Angie, and the captivating oil-painting sessions with her aunt-in-law, the esteemed artist Micaela Almeida.Angela's artistic journey began with humble doodles of flowers, symbolizing intimacy and family bonds. Her style, marked by an indiscriminate use of colors, reflects her innate creativity. Turning to digital mediums for expression, she reserves traditional materials for moments of artistic freedom. Angela, embracing vulnerability, desires a return to the simplicity of white canvases. She discreetly embeds messages in her art, inviting viewers to discover joy in nature scenes, and showcasing Quitenian humor with humility and depth.
