Ostuni Painting

Ostuni is a town at the tip of Italy's heel, a cluster of architectural gems, a few kms from the Adriatic sea. Etymologically speaking, Ostuni derives perhaps from the Latin 'Hostium Unio', which means "a group of people of different origins"...And this speaks to me. There was something mystical about this place when I visited, maybe it was the ancient olive groves that accompanied our way into town, or the Stone Age megaliths that hide beneath some of those olive trees... But I liked it there. In this canvas, the brushstrokes are deliberate, the colours emotive - each hue tells a story. Collectively those colours come together as a community. I kept things somewhat rickety, with cracks in the facades, because that is how I see the town ; More or less intact, but resilient and still breathing with life. The painting is done in acrylics and inks with a varnish finish. It is ready to go out into the world and bring shape and sentiment into a new space!
