Otto I Painting

Oil and acrylic with handmade paper and inkjet print on canvas. As I look at the same source images over and over again this repetition became an idea used within the artworks themselves. The original photograph used in this piece shows Otto in a bathing costume (Probably taken at the Danube). On the costume there is a picture of Mickey Mouse. As probably the most prominent animated character at the time (early 1930s) Mickey Mouse is symbolic of childhood, a childhood which was to be lost shortly after this photograph was taken.
