Three carnival cars spin across an open road, disconnected from the ride’s mechanism. A monstrous funnel cloud in the distance advances. The riders, from the vantage points of each of the three cars seem to be interpreting their experiences differently; from oblivious and distracted to foreboding. This work is inspired by my search to somehow make sense of the world right now, exploring the symbolism of the absurdities and dissonances. A figurative, darkly humorous and slightly uncomfortable expression poking at the cognitive dissonance we live with today. A depiction our collective entropy in the face of climate collapse. My aim is to provoke contemplation and reflection, urging viewers to reclaim their voices and advocate for positive change. Painted in acrylics on canvas, finished with uv protective acrylic varnish. I love acrylics for flexibility with mediums, layering and drying times. This work arrives unframed and ready to hang.

Janelle Schneider is a Figurative artist with an interest in inter-connectedness. Mainly self-taught, she has been painting using oils and acrylics most of her life. Her creative journey has been an exploration of relationship and connection in various forms. Her work explores the intersection of emotion, perception and connection, to create thought-provoking emotionally resonant pieces in acrylic on canvas or wood that inspires dialogue and connection. The artist participated in Washington County Open Studios events in 2023 and 2024. Janelle's painting titled "New Coat" has been included in Studio Visit Magazine, Volume 52, a digital and print publication. Her work is also included in fourteen paintings created for the Suit of Wands in The Science Tarot, which was originally published in Berkeley in 2010.
