About The Artwork

The title of this painting in Swedish is "På vägen till Gamla Stan," which means "On the way to Gamla Stan." Gamla Stan means "old town" and is the island in Stockholm which has many historic buildings. The three churches from left to right are Riddarholmskyrkan, Tyskakyrkan (German Church), and Storkyrkan. The large rectangular building in the middle is the royal palace, or "Kungliga Slottet." The viewpoint of this painting is from a ferry I was on that was going to the island Djurgårdan, while the other ferry is going to Gamla Stan. I love the movement of the water from each direction of the ferries and tried to capture the different tones and waves in the shades of blue.

Chelsea E. Dill has always been interested in art since childhood and was often found with a paintbrush in her hand. After years of filling sketchbooks with drawings, Chelsea ventured into painting, especially having come from a family of artists. Primarily self-taught, Chelsea works in acrylic paint and her artwork has been featured in several local art shows. She enjoys painting maritime scenes and is always inspired from the incredible places from her travels. In addition to painting, Chelsea enjoys knitting, especially garments with traditional Nordic motifs. She is also especially interested in Norway and has studied the Norwegian language for several years. Some of Chelsea’s paintings are inspired by Norwegian expressions and culture, such as artwork about the traditional bonfire on Sankt Hans eve, and a painting that embodies the term “Hyttekos,” the cozy feeling of sitting next to a fireplace in a cabin on a snowy evening.
