About The Artwork

Working for an astrophysics foundation www.physiqueunivers.fr and thus being immersed in both new discoveries and old teachings about the Universe . More and more we are looking at the stars and astrophysics will be present in our life. As a human dwarfed by the immensity of the cosmos, in awe with the potential physical aspect of the planets in the billions of galaxies around us, I turn it around and "Play God!" in the anonymity of my studio, creating planets, questioning the probability that each of these planets is original... maybe... maybe not. Pushing the concept further, is the question of the creation of the Universe...are we here by design (the creationist theory) or is life a random event (the chance theory). In these series of painting: the painting a. will always depict a specific design and the b. will be the mirror image of painting a. with the only difference that the design will be absent of it... The outcome is random, the paint as an element itself, its flow will decide. SPECIFIC to Planet 1. All cultures describe a certain "Golden Age" which in the evolutionary theory, would have occurred from about 9000 years b.c. to before the start of the Agricultural Revolution. Poussin depicted it with such joyful nostalgia in his Bachanales, that I could only inspire myself from his Mars & Venus... a scientific wink to Adam & Eve. HANGING: There are different hanging possibilities of the paintings. a.& b. can be sold separately from each other. Each framed in a 3 cm thick wood veneer can be hanged on a nail. Possibility 2 are the sides a.&b. in recto verso, hanging from the top. Possibility 3 includes red led shining through the transparency of the painting, the afterglow of creation. MEDIUM: I love to paint on plastic, the transparency of it, its shine, the possibilities of multiplication of the transparencies. And I hate waste the pollution of plastic.... A love/hate relationship.

Letizia's work incline towards philosophy and history. She is passionate about the permanence of human nature in the light of evolution, this nourishes her theoretical quest about the essences of being, of becoming. She thrives to create philosophical artworks, to link polarised concepts, aesthetics, times and cultures, creating 2D, 3D or kinetic antithesis that transcend and refute the historical dichotomy of Western culture, the duality between Apollo and Dionysus. Since 2015, she adresses metaphysical questions “ Who am I?”…“ Where am I going?” not only on the philosophical and evolutionary fronts but also on the one of astrophysics as she became board member of Professor Smoot, Nobel Prize in Physics 2006, Foundation “Physics of the Universe”. The contemporary forays in neuroscience and her exposure to astrophysics made her concerns and scientific quests grow exponentially from the history of humankind to that of the universe, from metaphysics to physics, from Wittgenstein to Einstein. BIO : Swiss and Italian artist Letizia Reuss (Hoffmann) graduated from Parsons New York with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Industrial Design. She worked for industrial designers Ross Lovegrove and Karim Rashid while developing her own identity as an artist, participating in art shows, exhibiting also at the Gramercy Park International Art Fair, New York. A dramatic oversight regarding explosive materials in her New York apartment caused the entire apartment to blow up. The accident curtailed her artistic confidence for some time. She went into the Swiss influence and entered the world of private banking for Credit Suisse in Zurich and Hong Kong. However the artistic spirits prevailed. A subsequent move to Vienna brought with it a return to Art. Letizia then focussed on jewellery, cufflinks and sculptures created and manufactured in her atelier in Bali . In 2009, she moved to London to pursue a Masters in Applied Imagination at Central Saint Martins. Today she is a practicing artist with her atelier in London. From 2013 to 2016 and Letizia gave speeches in Baku and/or Istanbul on Art's influence on multiculturalism. It is at one of these conferences that she had the honour to meet Professor George Smoot, Nobel Prize in Physics 2006. She was from 2015 to 2020, board member of his Foundation “Physics of the Universe". This Foundation aims to do educative and research projects as well as to bring artists and scientists together. www.physiqueunivers.fr
