"In 2014, with the poetic title Daylight Found Me with No Answer Mexican artist Jose Dávila announced his own existence at the threshold from day and night, lingering near a portal in twilight. It is that phase that in French is characterized by the saying L’heure entre chien et loupe—the hour between dog and wolf. The domesticated and the untamed become spitting images of one another; indeed, they coalesce. There is another palpable aspect in Jose Dávila’s quote: the search in the black of night for a solution of any kind whatsoever and the recurrent failure that may immanently lurk at the heart of this search. It is precisely these two transitional aspects that become effective in Berit Mücke’s oeuvre: the condition of twilight and an indispensible methodology of productive failure for the purpose of forging ahead toward something new."
