VIEW IN MY ROOM
United States
Painting, Acrylic on Canvas
Size: 48 W x 30 H x 1.5 D in
Ships in a Crate
When I think of what inspired this work, I think this: On June 12, 2016 my good friend KJ Morris was shot and killed in Orlando at the Pulse nightclub. Her death changed me and forced me into the movement to ban assault rifles. This issue is inextricably connected to the systemic racism and Othering that happens on a daily basis to anyone who is non-white, queer, differently abled, non-christian or female. People look for a legible reading of one another exactly as we look for meaning in symbols, letters, etc. This work is fine art acrylic paint on canvas. I have tried to be as color/hue-accurate as possible with the photographs I have included but one notable inaccuracy is that the "View in a room" option shows an unusually small version of this painting (or else an incredibly large table underneath it). There is no hanging apparatus installed on the painting and the edges are not monotone. This is intentional. Life is messy. Each piece is signed, named and dated on the top right corner of the back frame.
