The Board of Directors of the Villa Seurat Foundation is pleased to announce the name of the winner of the call for projects for 2023. The jury, made up of N'Goné Fall, Thierry Forien, Juliette Frescaline, Martin Kiefer and Sophie Nordmann , chose the work of Golnaz Afraz to create the work which will be unveiled in 2023 and exhibited permanently at the Maison des Etudiants de la Francophonie at the Cité internationale universitaire de Paris. The competition was high level with more than 150 entries. Winner of the Saatchi Art Showdown prize for ''Painted world",2015. Golnaz AFRAZ explores a variety of themes in her work, each of which can be seen as poignant in terms of both individual and universal experience. She explores notions of life in the philosophical sense, and in the everyday, all through analysing man and his relationship with nature and his surroundings. Golnaz’s intention in her paintings is to create a story and to allow the viewer to draw their own conclusions. The starting point might be the memory of a scene from daily life or from a play or film she has seen. She paints this reality in multiple layers, depicting various fragments of time on the same plane and superimposing forms. She leaves sections of her paintings unfinished or in sketch form to give the work space to breathe. Golnaz’s juxtaposition of colourful, expressive painted areas, blank spaces and snapshot-style line-drawn figures interacting in everyday situations, arranged apparently randomly across the canvas, creates unique compositions of immense vitality, in which, ultimately, the graphic quality prevails.
