Patience was created out of the need to experiment with new mediums during the first year of the pandemic. Cold wax was interesting especially for its ability to conceal and encase other material. I had recently lost my mother and found letters from her which I wanted to preserve and use in my work so naturally having them covered in wax felt useful. Other items are embedded within the painting, some meaningful, other objects just aesthetically pleasing to the composition. The main idea surrounding the expression was a theme of missing my mother, exploring my new identity as an adult child without her, and the remnants of how she made me feel as a child. She told me glorious things like how she felt I would always be an artist and how much she loved my work, things a mother would do. How those statements impact me now, how they helped develop my character and confidence are what is expressed in the words carved into the wax, the sentiments of the harmonizing colors and the chaos our life was together. The dichotomy of those feelings are presented by the contrasting and opposing tones, the lively line work and the over complicated composition. Somehow it's all neutralized and harmonious, just like our relationship. Influences of Joan Mitchell and Lee Krasner are present.

Robin Jack Sarner is a talented female artist hailing from Los Angeles. With a degree in Art Education her traditional training left her unsatisfied and prompted a focus on abstract expressionism informed by the American mid-century masters. With a profound fascination for painting emotions and capturing visual narratives, Robin delves into the depths of the human experience. Through her art, she unravels the intricate connection between emotions and the transformative power of the creative process. Using large canvas surfaces, gestures, marks, drips, scratches and mixed media, her creations fuse the immersive journey of self discovery and purpose. Robin’s upcycled creations explore nostalgia, preserving historical ephemera, honoring influential loved ones and memorializing the analog age of “old school.” Her work has been exhibited in local and international galleries, published in art magazines and retains worldwide collectors. Robin continues to create and present curriculum based abstract art projects for local school districts serving over 10,000 children annually. She actively participates in art classes, local art groups and seeks residencies to expand her practice and aesthetic. It’s her goal to develop a strong body of work that exemplifies self discovery and her deep connections to archival materials.
