This painting is inspired by nature in my beautiful home state of Texas. In my landscapes, I try to create a mood of peace and serenity while maintaining my freedom to enhance, exaggerate, or skew the colors to create that effect. I have taken this simple country beauty for granted all my life until I started painting full-time just a few years ago. Now, I see art when I look around me and see uncomplicated everyday landscapes, imagining contrast of shadow, light, and color. Every scene that I used to take for granted now offers me a painting adventure. I literally never run out of inspiration for my art. I just look around me here in the country outside Abilene, Texas. Though I have worked some in oil, I am more comfortable and can achieve the effect I am going for easiest in acrylic. This one is a signed original. It comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. The stretched canvas has painted 0.5-inch edges. A hanging wire is attached. It is varnished with Liquitex Gloss Medium and Varnish. The paints are Liquitex Heavy Body Acrylics. Its companion piece, "Peaceful Country" is also for sale in my Saatchi listings.

I am a Texas artist and have painted for most of my 71 years, being from a family of artists. My mother's youngest sister, aunt Patsy, spent a lot of time with me, guiding and encouraging me, and I credit her for my passion for art. She painted under the name of "von." When she died in August of 2018, I began placing "von" somewhere on the face of each painting as an acknowledgment of her role in my artistic endeavors. My inspirations come from my home environment in Texas. Things that I have taken for granted all my life are now frequent subjects for art. Mesquites, cactus, old barns and shacks, windmills, wooden fence posts, wildflowers and the like are favorite subjects. I am a colorist, and I enjoy using color to give new life to otherwise fading beauty. In addition to color, I strive for dimension, movement, depth and unusual perspective.
