About The Artwork

The peacock is an emblem of immortality and glory. In heraldry, it denotes self-love and constant self-respect, great wealth, but also, because of its keen eyes, vigilance... It can also be a symbol of pride. In the ancient cultures of India and later Iran, the peacock's magnificent tail became a symbol of the all-seeing sun. In Greco-Roman mythology, the peacock is dedicated to Hera (Juno), wife of Zeus. According to legend, when Hermes defeated the all-seeing Argus, who had a hundred eyes, Hera brought him back to life in the form of a peacock, by placing his eyes on its tail. The peacock also symbolizes majesty, royalty and spiritual superiority, and is a perfect creature. In Ukrainian Baroque symbolism, the peacock is a Firebird carrying the solar energy of development. It is a symbol of prosperity, youth and beauty, and also represents family happiness. According to Feng Shui, peacocks are among the most powerful talismans. They bring happiness and joy, and promote good luck at work and career development. Putting such a picture in your home means attracting good luck.

Marguerite Maliuga lives and works in Marseille. She was born in Ukraine (Zaporozhie). After studying with recognized masters of Ukrainian decorative art (V.Sokolenko and A.Pikouch in particular at the "Classic" University of Zaporozhie) she refined her art and invented new expressive means. When she arrives in France in 2019 she continues to exhibit her work. She has participated to the "Grand Concours de Peyrolles en Provence" (June 2021) where she received the second prize. She then exhibited in several places in the Marseille area. In December 2021 she became an honorary member of the international permanent competition of plastic arts "MIR-FEST" (Ukraine). In March 2022 she founded an association "Union of Ukrainian Artists and their Friends" in order to promote Ukrainian culture and help Ukraine. The paintings of Marguerite Maliuga depict a fantastic nature full of emotions, feelings and dreams. The artist represents the world as she sees it. The admiration for the ornaments of traditional painting of her country, legends, Slavic tales that impressed her in her childhood and youth, determined her path in art. The Ukrainian Baroque style is personified in this painting. This plant ornament has incorporated thousand-year-old traditions of fine arts and a national ideal of beauty. The artist never stops creating and learning. Colour and form are the expressive means of the artist's work. Each painting contains a concentration of emotions incarnated in jovial associations of colours and chosen subjects. A few years ago the artist started to create wooden jewellery, which she carves and paints. The choice of material is not a coincidence, as wood retains the warmth and energy of nature. Her paintings can be found in private collections in France, in Poland, in Ukraine, in Belgium and in the USA.
